OVERVIEW

Universiti Sains Malaysia (known as USM) is a university in Malaysia. Founded 1969 as the second university to be established in the country  and one of Malaysia’s leading science universities. With a total of  35,000 students including 28,000 undergraduates and 15% International Students. It is also one of the country’s largest In Malaysia. It has three campuses: a main campus on the island of Penang and There are two other USM campuses: one at Kubang Kerian in Kelantan, known as the Health campus, and the other at Seri Ampangan, Nibong Tebal in Penang, known as the Engineering campus. 

The former houses the School of Medical Sciences, the School of Health Sciences and the School of Dental Sciences, while the latter houses the six engineering schools USM plans to open a Global Campus (Kuala Lumpur Campus)

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor Programs

National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level or the equivalent of 12 years of basic education) with the grade 80% and above. 

Or

A Diploma from recognized Institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.00.

Note: Some programmes are required applicant to undergo an interview session before being accepted

Master Programs

  • A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4 or equivalent, in a related field 
  • A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4 or equivalent, in a related field with one of the following:
    1. Research experience – 1 year; or,
    2. Professional experience in related field- 1 year; or,
    3. Two (2) academic publications (journals, not proceeding(s) in related field; or,
    4. Grade B for major/ elective courses; or,
    5. Grade B+ for final year project;

PHD programs

  • A Master’s degree with minimum CGPA of 3 out of 4 or equivalent, in a related field. 

AND

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA 2.75 out of 4 , in a related field. 

ACCOMMODATION& FACILITIES

STUDENT CAN OPT FOR ON-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION OR OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION

  • On-Campus Accommodation is equipped with a single room or a twin-sharing room, common bathroom, cafeteria, laundry room, sport facility, study room, pantry and groceries store. Rental for on-campus accommodation is from USD30 – USD75 per month (not inclusive of meals).   • Off-Campus Accommodation is the rental of private accommodation within walking distance and also available within 3km in radius. Most of the condominium/apartments are equipped with 3 bedrooms, air-conditioned, groceries store, gymnasium, swimming pool, tennis/badminton court and laundry shop.

  • Rental for off-campus accommodation is from USD200 – USD400 per month (not including utility bills).
