UNIVERSITY PUTRA MALAYSIA (UPM)

OVERVIEW

University Putra Malaysia Founded in 1931 as the School of Agriculture, UPM’s main campus is in Serdang, Selangor. It was formerly known as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia or the Agricultural University of Malaysia. Now, UPM offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in most fields such as science, engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine, business and social science.

Today, UPM is made up of 16 faculties, 16 centers, nine institutes, one school, and one academy. Within each faculty are a number of individual departments, spread across two campuses. The main campus, covering over 1,000 hectares of land, is situated in the town of Serdang with a branch campus, set within 700 hectares, is located in Bintulu, a coastal town in Borneo.

In total, around 24,000 students attend UPM including approximately 4,500 international students. Just over half of the student body is made up of undergraduates, with around 10,000 studying at postgraduate level. Each year, UPM accepts around 1,300 inbound exchange students, sending about the same to study overseas.

There are 17 colleges for accommodation, a range of associations and clubs, including many arts and cultural clubs

UPM’s Sultan Abdul Samad Library is among the finest in the region with an impressive range of reading materials in diverse formats. This state-of-the-art facility provides various services and is supported by a professional team of library liaison officers.

  • Sports Complex

UPM’s sports complex includes first-rate facilities such as a stadium, an international-standard swimming pool, soccer and rugby fields, and basketball, tennis and badminton courts.

  • Student Health Centre

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Academic Requirement for admission in University Putra Malaysia (UPM)

Bachelor Programs

  • National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level or the equivalent of 12 years of basic education) with the grade 80% and above. 
  • Or

A Diploma from recognized Institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.00.

  • Note: Some programmes are required applicant to undergo an interview session before being accepted

Master Programs (Coursework)

  • A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 3 out of 4 or equivalent, in a related field 
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA 2.75 out of 4, in a related field, can be accepted in some coursework programs

 

Master Programs (Research)

  • A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 3 out of 4 or equivalent, in a related field  

PHD programs

  • A Master’s degree with minimum CGPA of 3 out of 4 or equivalent, in a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA 2.7 out of 4, in a related field, can be accepted.
