About the university

Previously UTHM University Malaysia was known as Pusat Latihan Staf Politeknik (PLSP) which was established on 16 September 1993. The main purpose of PLSP was to train and qualify faculty members in polytechnics to be conversant and skilled in multiple engineering fields. It is run by the Training Institute in cooperation between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and the Malaysian Ministry of Education. KUiTTHO has continued to progress and produce skilled, knowledgeable and competitive graduates.

As a result, on 20 September 2006, the Malaysian government agreed to grant the university college full university status and change its name to Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. On 1 February 2007, Datuk Mustafa Mohamed, Minister of Higher Education, officially announced the change. Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein Onn later made the official announcement of the name change on March 2, 2007.
