- The university is ranked among the top 1,200 universities around the world according to QS rankings.
- In 2012, UNIMAS gained national recognition by winning 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 10 Bronze awards at MTE 2012.
- The university was ranked No. 135 on the Asian continent in 2011, according to the QS International Foundation.
- The University of Sarawak bagged 11 gold medals at BIS 2012, an international exhibition held in London. Professor Dr Balbir Singh from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences was among several recipients of the Best Malaysian Scientist Award presented by Académie Sciences Malaysia for his outstanding and distinguished contribution to malaria research activities.
- Last year, the committee was awarded 44 projects under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation's Science Fund grant, totaling RM7.59 million.
- RM2.88 million from the Ministry of Higher Education has been secured for 81 research projects.

Admission requirements to UNIMAS in Malaysia | |
For bachelor's degree applicants | Possess a high school diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4 or 62% out of 100%. Stage A or Stage O certificate with a grade of 2 out of 4 or 50% out of 100% minimum. |
For applicants to master's degrees | Possess a bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with a minimum GPA of 2.7 out of 4 or 65% out of 100%. Note: Students with a BIM GPA of 2.5 to 2.7 may have a chance of taking admission if they have previous work experience. |
For PhD applicants | Possess a Master’s degree in the relevant field with a minimum grade point average of 2.7 out of 4 or 65% out of 100%. |
